What to Check Before Buying a Towable Food Trailer

Not all food trailers are the same, even when they look similar in a photo. Here are 6 specific things worth checking before you choose — things that will save you a headache later.

Note

This guide was written to help you objectively evaluate any food trailer you're considering — not just ours. Feel free to use it as a checklist, whichever manufacturer you end up choosing.

1

Wall Construction Type

The thickness and construction method of the walls determine how well the food trailer will hold up over time. Sandwich-panel construction (an outer/inner skin with an insulation layer in between) is today's quality standard — ask specifically what insulation material is used and at what thickness.

2

Flooring: Flat, or with Wheel Arches?

This is something few people ask about, but it makes a big practical difference. In many food trailers on the market, the wheel arches protrude into the work area — they take up useful space, get in the way of placing equipment, and make those spots harder to clean.

Ask to see the interior flooring before deciding — if it's completely flat and one-piece, you gain real, usable work space.

3

Axles & Braking System

The axles and brakes are among the most critical mechanical parts of a towable trailer — and often the easiest to "hide" behind a nice photo. Ask specifically which company manufactures them. Recognized European brands like KNOTT and ALKO offer reliability and easy access to spare parts down the line — which isn't always true of components from unknown sources.

4

Certificates & Type Approval

Every new towable food trailer must have an EU Certificate of Conformity and EU Type Approval — two documents you'll need anyway for registration and plates (see our detailed classification guide, in Greek). Ask for them upfront — if the manufacturer struggles to produce them, that's a red flag.

5

Warranty & After-Sales Support

What happens if you need a spare part or service in two years? Ask specifically how long the warranty lasts and whether the manufacturer remains available for support after delivery — not just until the sale closes.

6

Customization Options

Every business has different needs in terms of size, number of service hatches and equipment. A food trailer that's strictly "off the mold," with no room for customization, can limit you later. Check whether the manufacturer offers real flexibility, or just a few ready-made variants.

For businesses with different needs, see the models suited for coffee and breakfast, street food and sandwiches and ice cream or gelato. Before deciding, check real food trailer prices for sale and the technical specifications of each model.

Every e-kantina.gr model meets all 6 points above — one-piece flooring, KNOTT/ALKO axles, full certification and complete customization options.
